Pregnancy Ultrasound Services

Pregnancy ultrasounds are an important part of monitoring your baby’s growth and wellbeing throughout pregnancy. These safe, non-invasive scans use sound wave technology to provide clear images of your developing baby, offering valuable clinical insights and reassurance for expectant parents.

Providing high-quality diagnostic imaging with compassion, care and clarity.

Ultrasound at Different Stages of Pregnancy

Pregnancy ultrasound scans may be recommended at various stages to assess fetal development, confirm key milestones and support clinical decision-making. Each scan provides important information about your baby’s health, position and growth.

Before 12 weeks

Confirms the pregnancy, checks fetal heartbeat, size and position, and determines whether there is more than one baby.

12–13 weeks

Allows early assessment of fetal anatomy, with major organs and structures visible and some abnormalities detectable.

20–22 weeks

The optimal time for a detailed morphology scan, assessing fetal anatomy, growth, placental position and overall development.

After 26 weeks

Focuses on monitoring fetal growth, wellbeing and position, with anatomy reviewed as visibility allows in later stages.

We accept all radiology referrals and provide bulk-billed ultrasound services, including pregnancy scans, for eligible Medicare patients. Same-day and after-hours appointments are available for your convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that patients often have questions before their imaging appointment. Below are answers to some of the most common enquiries to help you feel informed, prepared and confident before your visit.

Is pregnancy ultrasound safe for both mother and baby?

Yes. Pregnancy ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses sound waves rather than radiation and is widely used throughout pregnancy.

Ultrasounds may be recommended at different stages to monitor growth, confirm dates, assess anatomy, check placental position and support overall pregnancy care.

Preparation depends on the stage of pregnancy. Early scans may require a full bladder, while later scans usually do not. Our team will advise you at the time of booking.

Some ultrasound findings can help assess the risk of certain chromosomal conditions; however, ultrasound alone cannot provide a definitive diagnosis.

Yes. Images are displayed on a screen during the examination, and the sonographer will explain what is being viewed where appropriate.
